We share a candid creator update recorded on a phone, with the internet down, while we rethink whether the show stays an audio podcast or shifts into a video-first channel. We talk through the real costs, the editing learning curve, and why audience feedback matters when you are trying to find your niche.

• shifting from podcasting to video production for more feedback
• cutting Buzzsprout extras like magic mastering to save costs
• why heavily edited videos feel better than raw audio
• comparing OBS recording with iMovie editing slowdowns
• moving to CapCut for smoother edits and faster workflow
• the personal reason I started talking into a mic
• balancing “just for me” with the hope it pays for itself
• deciding whether to separate video content from podcast audio
• asking listeners if they want more podcast uploads

"So for those 10 of you that do listen, if you want to keep keep hearing these podcasts, let me know."
"If you still want to check me out, you know, you can on the YouTube Rumble and BitChute the video."
"So let me know what you think."

Quick Update From The Couch

SPEAKER_00

Greetings. This is the Objective Jerk coming to you from my couch. I am recording this on my phone with my old mic because my wife is sleeping in the room, and the internet has been down now for two, almost three days, so I can't really do much. I mean, I can I could record this on the computer, but I just I don't know. I've been meaning to talk about this and then so I just figured might as well do it now. Use the phone, whatever. But this is for all the 10 listeners that I have who regularly listen to my podcast. I mean, I get people that you know occasionally probably check it out or whatever, but I just wanted I didn't want to just like quit. I don't

Moving Focus Toward Video

SPEAKER_00

know what I'm gonna do. So I've been focusing on video production for my podcast. So it's turning from a podcast to like a YouTube channel, basically. So I've been making some videos, editing, making thumbnails, all that kind of stuff, all the kind of crap I didn't want to do before when I just wanted to talk into a microphone. I'm doing now. And I actually kind of like it, and I'm getting more feedback, more interaction, more views on that as opposed to Buzz Sprout in my podcast. So I've I've I got rid of some of my some of the I guess special features that Buzz Sprout offers, like the the AI, you know, helping you with titles and all that kind of stuff, the magic mastering. So this this is probably gonna sound pretty bad when I upload it. It might not, I don't know, but but so I'm kind of just focusing more on on the video. But see, the video is less of me babbling like I am now. The videos are generally more straight to the point. Still my opinions and stuff like that, but and they're heavily edited, which is I sh I probably should have been doing with the podcast a long time ago, cutting out all my dead air and my ums and butts and my sipping of my coffee. So I kind of apologize for that. I mean, I kind of was just like, you know what, psh, whatever. But since I've been editing the videos and cutting that stuff out and then listening to it, it's like, man, it's just it's a lot better. So if when I do record future podcasts, except for this one, probably right here, just because I just want to get this uploaded and just to kind of get the information out. But I will work more on editing my last two podcasts, I want to say, were actually audio from my video channel, you know, from the video part of my channel where I recorded the video and there's stuff like that. I don't I don't think that's really conducive with just podcast. I would like some feedback if you think otherwise, but if I'm going to do like I've been doing, I'm I think I'm gonna have to separate and then just occasionally do a podcast. I don't know. A lot of it kind of depends on, I guess, on the this this episode that I'm recording right now. So for those 10 of you that do listen, if you want to keep keep hearing these podcasts, let me know. If not, I'm probably gonna end up getting rid of my buzz sprout and my podcast, basically. Because I don't get, I mean, I get there's people that listen to it, but not regularly. And the money that I pay monthly for it, it just doesn't justify when I can make YouTube videos for free, basically. So it's just, you know, it makes more sense to do the videos trying to look at my time, but it's not showing the time on my on the Garage Band app. But that's kind of where I'm at right now. So I didn't want to just not upload podcasts, and you know, for those few that do listen to it, be like, what's going on with this guy? So that's what this is for, just a kind of an FYI informational update, I guess, on what's going on with me. If you still want to check me out, you know, you can on the YouTube Rumble and BitChute the video. And then I also do well, I used to do podcasts on YouTube, and they do have a podcasting thing, so I might just do go that route. I mean Buzz Sprout is doing video with theirs, but again, that costs more. I don't know. I'm kind of it's I'm I'm just kind of in like a little bit of a I'm right now I'm just trying to get my skills down for the video editing and everything, because like the transition to that is going okay, I guess.

OBS Vs iMovie Vs CapCut

SPEAKER_00

I don't know. So originally, you know, when I was like, okay, I'm gonna start making videos, I'm gonna edit, I you know, used OBS, which most everybody uses. And then I so I'd record on OBS and then I would edit it in iMovie, and then I would post it. And it was going pretty good at first, but iMovie, the more you edit, I don't know if it's my computer, because my computer's getting pretty old now, it's like nine years old, my Mac. I need to get a new one. If I get a new one, I might go back and try the iMovie because I do like it, and it's it's good for what I use it for. You know, I don't, I'm not like a movie editor or anything like that. I'm not making like crazy, you know, short videos of whatever. I don't know. I just, you know, I edit my podcast, I add some clips to add humor, and that's about it. So I mean, iMovie was good for that, but it's just really lagging. And it seemed like the more I clipped out and added little clips, the more lagging it got. And it was just getting it was taking forever to edit a video. So I got Cap Cut, which I are actually already had. The kids use it on the phone and stuff. I've used it in the past before, but I don't really use it normally. But so I, you know, opened that up, the free version on my Mac, and I I edited the video that I was working on before, and it was just so much smoother and easier to edit. So I was like, you know what? I'm going to I'm gonna pay a little extra for the pro and cut down on my podcast. So that's what I did. So I'm in the middle of kind of learning which how to record my videos best and use cap cut and kind of go from there. So that's just kind of where I'm at. Stop. I got all these kittens running around. Okay, so that's kind of just what's going on with me. Just trying some new things out and trying to be a little more proactive with my podcastslash, you know, it's not, I mean, yeah, I guess it's a YouTube channel, but that's kind of more of a general term, you know. I I upload the bit shoot and rumble as well, but so I don't

Why I Started Talking At All

SPEAKER_00

know. I enjoy actually like just right now, just me talking to the microphone, which is what this started out as is just something for me to get stuff off my chest. You know, I used to be doing yard work, I'd be doing some stuff, and I just find myself talking to myself, whether verbally or just in my head, about certain things going on, you know, just even just pop culture, political, whatever. Nothing really profound or or or or inspiring or really that important, but it's just stuff that I want, I felt like I wanted to talk to people about, but I didn't have anybody. Oh, cue the whatever. So, and I've said it before, but you know, my my father died, who was somebody I always, you know, we would sit and bullshit about various things, and and then I just don't have any close friends that I have that are like-minded as I am. Like I have some friends here, some guys I ride mountain bikes with and various things, but we don't have like there's no like real good connection, and we're not we don't have the same opinions really, you know what I mean? So I don't have that something. So that's what the microphone and the podcast, you know, became and what it is. So and I wasn't trying to, you know, I'm not trying to be the next Rogan, but at the same time, it was like maybe I should try and put a little more effort, maybe try and get it, you know, like it would be cool if I could make money from it for just enough to just pay for itself. That would be outstanding, and that's all I you know, so that way I'm not paying for whatever. So that's basically kind of been my mindset this whole time. Just, you know, like that would be nice, but it was never the intention. I'm not trying to make money, this isn't like my job or anything like that. And so that's why I didn't really put too much effort into it. I just you know, hit record, said what I wanted to say, stopped it, cut the ends off, added an intro, and basically sub, you know, uploaded it, and that was it. So, you know, my listeners got everything. My my snot, my cough, my sneeze, my dead air, my you know what I mean, but all that crap. You know, you guys had to suffer through. So I don't know.

Keeping Buzzsprout Basic For Now

SPEAKER_00

I'm not canceling my buzz sprout because I made that mistake in the past where I was like, I don't think I want to do this anymore. And then I quit it, and then like a couple months later I started it back up again. Because it I do, and you know, it is nice to get stuff off my chest, and this is the only way I could do it. So, but I can do this with the video, which gets more, you know, my on my platform, video platforms, I get more views. There's there's actually, you know, I know if people like or dislike. I mean, people are always disliking or whatever. I'm getting like comments, and generally it's like, you know, people wanting to sell their marketing schemes or whatever. I mean, then you have people that just like the troll, but I'm I'm getting actual you know comments from people that you know, hey, I like this or whatever, man. You babble too much or whatever, you know. So it's like so I'm kind of that's why I'm kind of focusing more on the video side of it. And it's you know, if I'm gonna do videos, I gotta have visuals. So, and those don't work with a podcast. I mean, I know a lot of YouTubers have podcasts, they basically take their video and make it a podcast, but I don't know. Maybe we'll see. Kind of I'm I'm still trying to figure out exactly, I guess what you would call my niche. So I'm trying to get down because my niche before was just the lazy niche. Now I'm trying to figure out exactly what I'm doing. So that's why I'm not getting rid of my podcast, my Buzz Sprout account. But I got rid of all the fancy stuff, the magic mastering and all that kind of stuff. So now I'm just paying for the you know the basic whatever, and I don't even know if how I'm gonna use that or if I'm gonna use it. Maybe I'll just do what I'm doing right now. I'll just sit here and record it on my phone, sitting on my couch, and just freaking open up my heart, whatever, and just say whatever. Maybe that's that's what I'll do, but that's what I've been doing, you know. I'm not gonna edit this. I'm not planning on editing it, edit, editing it. So I don't know. I don't know. I'm still trying to figure it out, you know. Like I said, the video one I'm getting, there's more more feedback and everything. There's more of a a what do you call it? There's I'm getting something out of it, I guess.

Where To Find Me Next

SPEAKER_00

Alright, so I had to take a little bit of a detour. Some stuff, had to go do some family stuff. So I was basically done, I think. But and I'm also outside, so you're gonna hear some wind chimes and a little wind. But anyway, so so yeah, so it's just it seems like it's more beneficial for me to do the video. So check it out there. If you know, I like I said, I'll still do some podcasts, maybe I'll do it like I'm doing right now. I don't know. But let me know if if you're like, oh man, that sucks. I want him to do this, then let me know. But if you don't give a shit, then okay, I get it. I don't, you know, but that's it. I just wanted to kind of I didn't want to leave anybody hanging, so that's my plan. So let me know what you think. Appreciate your time. God bless.
